Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic said on Thursday that Croatian public companies had the potential to cover 75% of Croatia with the primary optical network and announced steps to this effect until the end of this year.

"We have drafted a model, and we have decided who will be tasked with this job and have defined time frames," the minister said at a Cabinet meeting, adding that more information would be available after the next government session.

Minister Hajdas Doncic recalled that several companies, such as the power provider HEP, the rail operator HZ and the motorway operator HAC, had the potential to ensure the networking of 75% of the country so that the primary infrastructure would be also available in rural areas.

"We don't want to be the final operator but to enhance competition," the minister said adding that the "Odasiljaci i Veze" public company, or some other public company would be engaged in the job of networking.
