The European regulators published on Wednesday an EU-wide list of 93 unsafe airlines, which are banned in the EU. Even 50 of those companies have their headquarters in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

'This blacklist prevents those carriers from operating in Europe. The list will also make sure that those companies which are active in Europe do satisfy the highest safety standards', stated Jaques Barrot, EU Transport Commissioner.

'The Commission also urges people from other parts of the World to avoid traveling with those blacklisted air companies', Barrot added.

The total list of 93 companies comprises of 50 companies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 13 from Sierra Leone, 11 from Equatorial Guinea, 6 from Swaziland and 3 from Liberia. Barrot said that the list wasn’t final and that it would undergo regular updates, every three months. Most of those companies have never even offered their services in Europe.
