The Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (Jadranska vrata d.d.) company, which operates the Brajdica container terminal within the Port of Rijeka, on Wednesday presented the first direct regular shipping service between the Far East and the largest Croatian seaport.

The first ship to enter the container terminal as part of this service was the Chinese vessel Xin Qin Huang Dao, which arrived on Tuesday evening.

The new shipping service is a result of cooperation between the French CMA CGM container shipping company, the China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) and the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), which have established an alliance called Ocean Three, the French group's representative, Jakov Karmelic, told a news conference in Rijeka.

Within that route, 10 vessels of 5700 TEU capacity will offer a direct service weekly, connecting the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Ningbo and Chiwan, the Korean port of Busan and the Malaysian port of Kelang with Rijeka, Slovenia's Koper, and Trieste and Venice, Italy.

The Port of Rijeka company board chairman, Vedran Devcic, said this new service would have a great importance for the port's business performance this year.

In the first two months of 2015, the port saw a double-digit rise in turnover, Devicic said.

The Adriatic Gate Container Terminal today introduced its new Chief Executive Officer, Alessandro Becco.
