Spain acquaints Croatia with its experience in using EU funds for rail sector

Spain, which entered the European Union in 1986, has used possibilities from EU funds to the maximum in order to upgrade its railway infrastructure and technology, and it is ready to offer its experience in this field to Croatia, it was said at a seminar held in Zagreb on Monday on the Spanish railway sector technology.

The CEO Railways Infrastructure, Darko Pericic thanked to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Croatia, H. E. Rodrigo Aguirre de Carcer y García del Arenal to successfully established cooperation between the Spanish and Croatian Railways.

The reason for the increased interest in cooperation between the two railway systems are the Spanish experiences in the field of innovation, development and investment in the railway sector and the fact that most of the funds from multilateral and European funds for Croatia to be allocated to rail sector, said the HZI CEO, Darko Pericic.

Beside the CEO Pericic, welcome and introductory speeches were also given by Spanish Ambassador to Croatia, Representative of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Dubravka Djurkan Horvat, Alicia Montalvo Santamaría, Director of infrastructure, environment, energy and information and communication technology in the ICEX-in España Exportación e Inversiones, and Juan Ignacio Campo, general manager for international projects ADIF.

The seminar was organised by the office for economy and trade of the Spanish Embassy in Zagreb, the Institute ICEX Espana Exportacion, and the Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif.

The event brought together executives of Croatian and Spanish companies.
