Executives of Croatia's railway infrastructure company HZ Infrastruktura met on Wednesday with representatives of Kosovo's INFRAKOS railways, General manager Agron Thaci and CEO Hysen Fazliu to define areas of cooperation and to soon sign a memorandum regulating business and technical cooperation.

HZ Infrastrukture CEO Darko Pericic said that this year the company was launching a cycle of repairing 100 kilometres of rail line each year and that over the next four years the company intended to invest over HRK 15 billion, mostly from EU funds.

As soon as Croatia joins the European Union, HZ Infrastruktura will apply for cohesion and structural funding for three projects that are ready to be launched, said Pericic.

We expect to draw around EUR 1 billion each year from European funds for railways.

INFRAKOS representatives said that their company was established in 2011 when Kosovo Railways was divided into the infrastructure company and the TRAINKOS operating company in line with EU directives.

They too have big plans to reconstruct their infrastructure and a feasibility study has been conducted to investigate possibilities to finance relevant projects.

INFRAKOS asked for Croatian railway experts to assist them in the process of being included in international railway institutions through exchanging know-how and good business practise as well as helping them to prepare and implement relevant projects that could be financed by the EU, a press release says.
