Croatian motorway operators increase toll revenues by 5.6% in 2013

The total revenue of toll motorway operators in Croatia in 2013 was HRK 2.2 billion without VAT, or 5.6% more than in 2012, according to figures released by the Croatian Association of Toll Motorway Operators (HUKA).

Last year the Croatian Motorways (HAC) company raked in HRK 1.36 billion from tolls, increasing its revenue by 6.2%. The Rijeka-Zagreb Motorway (ARZ) operator collected HRK 490.3 million from tolls, or 2.1% more than in 2012; Bina Istra increased its toll revenue by 6.1% to HRK 194 million, while the Zagreb-Macelj Motorway (AZM) operator generated 10.3% more than in 2012, namely HRK 199 million.

The volume of traffic on the Croatian toll motorways increased by 0.9%, with 65.3 million vehicles registered. Only ARZ recorded a slight decline of 0.5% in the volume of traffic last year, while all the other operators reported increases, with AZM registering the highest increase of 4.3%.

Last year Croatia had 1,288.5 kilometres of toll motorway, of which 900.5 km were operated by HAC, 187 km by ARZ, 141 km by Bina Istra, and 60 km by AZM. A total of 32.5 km of new motorway or semi-motorway were built in 2013, and 11 km of new motorway are to be opened this year. In 2013 HRK 1.57 billion was invested in the construction of new motorway sections and HRK 272.2 million in the repair and maintenance of the existing ones.

Last year the number of traffic accidents on the Croatian motorways fell by 2.3% to 2,162, with 39 fatalities, which was six people less than in 2012.
