Pula: 34th Study and Information Days ASECAP 2006

The main topic of the "34th Study and Information Days ASECAP 2006" that will be held from 21-24 May in Pula, Croatia, will be the efficient role of the public-private partnership in the construction of motorways through the enlarged Europe.

This was announced at today's press conference by Aleksa Ladavac, the president of the Croatian Association of Toll Motorways Concessionaires (HUKA).

''The Croatian Association unifies and represents 126 societies and companies which control more than 25 000 km of motorways in 17 European countries. Their total annual income based on toll fees reaches the amount of EUR 15.58 billion'', Ladavac added.

He also said that Croatia has become a very important partner of ASECAP and the European motorway industry, based on the fact that it possesses a motorway network in the total length of 1 020 km, of which 490 km have been constructed during the last five years.

He explained that the main goal of the Association was to promote toll fees as the most efficient means in the financing of motorway construction and maintenance and the increasing of road security. Another important step was the introduction of an electronic charging system so that one transponder might be sufficient for allowing drivers to travel throughout Europe without having to stop.

The three-day congress will pool 450 participants, amongst them officials from the European Parliament and the European Congress as well as representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
