Ministerial Conference entitled "Mediterranean Mobility" was held in Trieste

Trieste, 4-5 February - Italian Minister of  Foreighn Affaires Frattini with Vice President of the European Commission, Antonio Tajani, and Governor of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Renzo Tondo, durino the conference "Mediterranean Mobility"Representatives of the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Department for strategic infrastructure facilities, 4 and 5 February 2010 participated at a conference entitled "Mediterranean Mobility", in Trieste, organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Commission and the Fife region of Venezia Giulia.

The aim of the conference was to define the new framework of transport throughout the Mediterranean and how development supporting infrastructure.Thematic content was aimed at Trieste, which represents the shortest link between Europe and the Middle East and North Africa, but also new markets such as China and India.

At the time of saturation capacity of the northern ports (Rotterdam and Antwerp), Trieste became a key port for the transport of all goods and especially those quickly perishableTrieste, 5-4 February 2010 food products, which significantly shortens the time of the country's manufacturers to the importing country in central and northern Europe.

The introductory presentation placed emphasis on the poor usage of the geopolitical position of the city and the port of Trieste, and the result is economic backwardness Venezia-Giulia region and a weak development compared with other Italian regions.

Development and modernization of the port of Trieste, as the largest in this part of Italy includes the construction of multimodal logistics platform that will manipulate cargo in the port up to higher level. Duration of construction period is 4 years, a prerequisite for the realization of the financial structure of the value of 10 billion euros.

Correlation of transport and goods transport corridors, would require that cargo from port switch to the rail corridor Trst-Divača/Kopar-Divača-Ljubljana-Budapest-Ukrainian border, or via road corridor 'Va' Trieste-Trieste, 05 February 2010 - Participants at the conferenceLjubljana-Vienna-Graz. Modernization of the above-mentioned railway corridor is necessary because it would respond with new capacity of the port of Trieste, as the cheapest and environmentally the most acceptable mode of transport of goods to facilitate transport of containers and trucks.

Given that the project multimodal platform in Trieste suggested by Unicredit Bank, Conference participants also discussed the ways and methods of financing this project, but also about the ways of financing the other major infrastructure facilities.
