Direct flights will be introduced to better connect Nordic countries with Croatian Adriatic resorts in the forthcoming tourist season, travel agencies said at Denmark's largest tourist fair FERIE 2009, which was closing on Sunday.

Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki will be connected with Split and Dubrovnik by direct flights during the summer season. Norwegian low-budget airline Norwegian Air and Denmark's Cimber Air will take over flights previously arranged with the bankrupted Icelandic airline Sterling from the Danish capital to Croatia.

On 12 June, Croatian air carrier Croatian Airlines will introduce direct weekly flights from Gothenburg to Split and Dubrovnik, and during the season there will be additional flights between Copenhagen and Zagreb.

Tourist fairs held in Helsinki, Oslo and Copenhagen this month indicate a drop in bookings for Croatia and other Mediterranean countries.

Some Danish travel agencies confirmed a good number of bookings for Croatian resorts, while some complained about stagnation, as Danes delayed their decisions on holiday destinations for a few months because of the current economic crisis and a rise in the unemployment rate in their country.
