Croatia's Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, who is currently on an official visit to China, on Friday visited the eastern cities of Shanghai and Ningbo where he met with executives of the COSCO Shipping company and visited the port of Ningbo, the Croatian ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

In Shanghai, the Croatian delegation led by Butkovic met with executives of the COSCO Shipping company, which owns the world's largest fleet and third largest fleet of container ships.

In Ningbo, a meeting was held with representatives of the port of Ningbo Zhoushan, the only port in the world that for the first time handled over a billion tonnes of cargo in 2018. At the time of the Croatian delegation's visit, the port had handled 2,103,683 containers since the start of the year.

The visit to the port of Zhoushan concluded with a tour of the two most important container terminals and a meeting with leading executives of the port. The visit was an opportunity to exchange experience with executives of the northern Croatian Adriatic port of Rijeka and to discuss projects that were being prepared. A mutual desire was expressed for further cooperation, the statement said.

With the visits to Shanghai and the port of Ningbo Zhoushan, Minister Butkovic concluded his official visit to China, which began on January 20. During the visit, he held a number of meetings with the aim of exchanging experience between the two countries in the area of transport infrastructure and further advancing their cooperation.
