Air transport in 2006: more passengers, less cargo
During last year, Croatian airports registered over 89.2 thousand airplane operations, which carried 4.42 million passengers, 11.84 thousand tones of cargo and 1.3 thousand tones of mail, according to official sources within the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development.
Compared to the year 2005 the number of airplane operations was increased by 7.03% and the number of passengers went up by 12.36%.
Still, airports registered a decrease in the areas of cargo (minus by 22.96%) and mail transport (minus by 46.68% in weight).
The Zagreb Airport registered the highest traffic intensity – over 40.8 thousand airplane operations, 1.7 million passengers, over 9 thousand tones of cargo and 1.3 thousand tones of mail.
In 2006, the Dubrovnik Airport counted almost 15 thousand airplane operations, 1.1 million of passengers and 741.6 tones of cargo.
Over 10 thousand of airplane operations, more than 1 million of passengers and almost 1.5 thousand tones of cargo transport, registered the Split Airport during the last year.
Finally, the largest increase in transported passengers was reported by the airports Rijeka and Pula - Rijeka hosted over 166.6 thousand of passengers (plus by 40.96%) and Pula 288.8 thousand of passengers, which represents a plus by 40.18% as compared to 2005.
The analysis completed by the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development also comprises numbers regarding the airports of Zadar, Osijek, Brač and Mali Lošinj.
