Aeroflot scraps plan to introduce daily flights to Dubrovnik
Russian national air carrier Aeroflot has abandoned its plan to introduce a daily flight service between Moscow and Dubrovnik this summer, Dubrovnik Airport director Roko Tolic confirmed on Friday.
Tolic said Dubrovnik Airport had been notified by Aeroflot that it was not planning any regular flights to Dubrovnik in the 2011 season. He said that two companies would be flying charter flights and one would be operating regular flights between Moscow and Dubrovnik.
Tolic stressed that Aeroflot's decision had nothing to do with Dubrovnik's tourist agencies, hotels or airport.
Talks on the introduction of a regular flight service between the two cities began late in 2010 during Dubrovnik Mayor Andro Vlahusic's visit to Moscow. The Dubrovnik Airport authorities said earlier this year they had received a letter from Aeroflot inquiring about the commencement of their cooperation and requesting space at Dubrovnik Airport. The Russian airline was to fly between the two cities every day from May 27 until October 29.
