Yesterday afternoon the miners of the "Konstruktor-inzinjering" made their braketrough way past the rock meter wich shared southern and northern side of Biokovo mountain, tunnel operations on the renovation of the main clearance of the tunnel tubes have been continued today.
Tunnel "Sveti Ilija" has it's place in the Government's "recession package of measures", but despite on that I am confident that the construction of the tunnel will not stop because it's meaning for Imotski Frontier and Makarska Riviera is going to be recognized by the Split-Dalmatia County, said Joško Roscic, the Baska Voda Mayor.
Miroslav Gace, Chief of the Zagvozd municipality said that the breakthrough of the tunnel opening new vistas of economic development and tourism of the Zabiokovlje and it's own evaluation. He said that he also hopes to find the financial resources to end up the tunnel wich will connect the hinterland of Dalmatia with Makarska coastline.
"Continued work on the complete interior of the tunnel a long 4250 meters and the total width of 11 meters with two driving lanes wide and 7.7 meters, is questionable" said chief designer Ivan Galic, B. Sc. ing from "Konstruktor-inzinjering", adding that the breakthrough of the tunnel was one of the most demanding enterprise, not only in Croatia but also in the Europe.
In fact, over the tunnel tubes rock-massive is about 1300 meters high, and it's hampered due to higher drilling layers and stresses that the stone in the middle of the tunnel are often shot and caught the three rocky precipice into secondary tubes that are successfully bridged.
From the womb of the Biokovo mountain for the main and auxiliary tunnel excavated a total of 460,000 cubic meters of material.
