Croatian Transport and Infrastructure Minister BOZIDAR KALMETA and Bavarian Economy, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Martin Zeil agreed at their meeting in Zagreb on Wednesday to intensify Croatia-Bavaria cooperation in transport and infrastructure.
Bavarian companies are interested in connecting Croatian Adriatic islands by hydro-planes. The airport of Munich has sent its bid for being granted a concession for the modernisation of the airport of Zagreb, the Croatian transport ministry said in a statement today.
The Bavarian side is also interested in a project aimed at including five north Adriatic seaports -- Ravenna, Trieste, Venice, Koper and Rijeka -- in the transport of cargo by rail to Villach and further to Bavaria.
Croatian Minister Kalmeta welcomed the project the implementation of which should start in the second half of this year.
He spoke about plans to build a railway connecting the Croatian-Hungarian border with the Croatian seaport of Rijeka and possibilities to use EU funds for this purpose.
The two ministers also welcomed plans of the joint venture of Siemens and the Croatian rolling stock factory Gredelj for building multipurpose engines.
