Croatia to adjust Electronic Communications Act to EU Digital Agenda

Croatia will adopt amendments to the Electronic Communications Act by mid-2011 and an Internet Broadband Access Strategy by 2015, in accordance with the EU Digital Agenda, Transport and Infrastructure Ministry State Secretary Danijel Mileta said at an electronic communications conference in Zagreb on Tuesday.

Croatia is planning to ensure one million broadband lines in the fixed communication network by 2013, with 20 percent optical connections, which is an investment of HRK 654 million, Mileta said.

Out of 1.13 million broadband Internet connections at the end of 2010, 71 percent (803,800) were broadband lines in the fixed communication network (an increase of 17.4 percent) and 328,300 in the mobile communication network, the Croatian Post and Electronic Communications Agency (HAKOM) said last week.
