The cabin crews trade union in the Croatia Airlines company will go on strike at 0600 hrs on Friday and the industrial action will last until Tuesday, 13 July, union representative Hrvoje Humek told Hina on Thursday.
Croatia Airlines' management in the meantime reported that 33 out of a total of 96 flights would be cancelled due to the strike. Passengers of the cancelled flights will be reimbursed.
The management has announced a suit against disgruntled workers, accusing them of having no legal footing for the strike. It has estimated the damage at USD 1 million per day of the strike.
The trade union said that the management had no legal basis to ban the strike.
It said today that the trade union of pilots might join them in the strike.
The pilots trade union issued a statement on its web site on Thursday accusing the Croatia Airlines management of ruining the company and making losses.
The four-day strike will involve between 140 and 150 flight attendants. The cabin crews trade union includes 170 members. During the strike, a minimum 20 percent of cabin crews is obligated to work, as envisaged by regulations on strikes.
The cabin crews' strike has been triggered off by the failure of management and workers to agree on time terms for informing workers about changes in their work schedules, possibilities for using breaks, the number of days off for holidays and the determination of pays by collective agreements, the cabin crew trade union said in a statement on Tuesday.
The disgruntled workers say they have given up a majority of their demands during collective bargaining and acceded to a five-percent salary cut, adding that the above-mentioned reasons for their strike were also prerequisites for signing a collective agreement.
The Croatia Airlines management on Tuesday regretted the announced four-day strike by cabin crews, saying that during collective bargaining in the last few months the employer had acceded to four key demands but the cabin crew trade union later made an additional 43 demands.
