Ministry announces permits for Serbian hauliers

The Croatian Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure said in a statement on Monday it expected in the coming days the completion of the delivery of Koncar transformers to Serbia's power company Elektromreza and the issue of additional permits to Serbian hauliers for international transport through Croatia.

This is expected to end a dispute caused after the Croatian transport company Zagrebtrans was prevented for seven months from delivering, in cooperation with Serbia's Eurosped, the transformers to Elektromreza, which bought them from the Koncar company and which were delivered to train stations in Belgrade and Novi Sad this spring.

Due to the delay, Croatia froze a decision to issue an additional 12,000 bilateral permits to Serbian hauliers for international transport through Croatia for this year, with 45,000 having already been issued.

This prompted the International Transport association of Serbian hauliers to announce that it might block traffic on the border with Croatia today. However, this did not occur after the solution to the issue was announced.

According to the ministry, Eurosped delivered the first transformer in Novi Sad on Saturday. The permits for the transport of the second were expected today.

The head of the ministry's Road Traffic Administration, Igor Holy, on Friday received Serbian Assistant Interior Minister Borislav Borovic and representatives of Serbian haulage associations, announcing that the 12,000 permits would be issued in a few days.

The meeting also considered the issue of road tolls for Croatian hauliers in Serbia, which are higher than those for domestic hauliers. (Hina)
