A 20.85-kilometre section of the Rijeka-Zagreb motorway running from Vrata via Delnice to Ravna Gora was inaugurated on Saturday by the Croatian Ministers of Construction and Transport, Marina Matulović Dropulić and Božidar Kalmeta respectively.
The works on the construction of this dual-carriageway road were worth EUR 95.5 million, and they have been performed since 2006 by companies: Hidroelektra Niskogradnja, Konstruktor Inženjering, Viadukt, Strabag Austria and Dalekovod.
The entire motorway from the biggest Croatian seaport to the Croatian capital will be 146.5 kilometres long.
With the opening of the Vrata-Delnice-Ravna Gora section, the Rijeka-Zagreb major route has 132 kilometres of dual-carriageway roads.
The works on converting the remaining 14.5 kilometres to full motorway standards will end this October, Minister Kalmeta said at the inaugural ceremony in Ravna Gora, a town 40 kilometres northeast of Rijeka.
Kalmeta said that the completion of construction works on the motorway towards Osijek could be finalized by the end of this year.
This year, Šestanovac-Ravča section of the Zagreb-Dubrovnik motorway will be opened for traffic, according to the minister.
