Today the representatives of the company Autoceste Rijeka – Zagreb and a business association consisting of the companies Hidroelektra niskogradnja, Viadukt, Konstruktor – Inzenjering and Strabag signed a contract defining the construction of the southern Rijeka beltway from hub Orehovica till hub Diracje (8.85 km long).
The value of the planned investment runs up to HRK 627.9 million and the construction activities should be completed by 1 June 2009. The total length of the southern beltway including the access roads will be 9.6 km.
The Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Bozidar Kalmeta attended the opening of the construction activities. At that occasion he pointed out that it meant the resolving of one of the greatest transport problems the city of Rijeka was facing, a problem which would be solved through the Croatian construction industry.
The last part of the beltway, from St. Kuzam till Krizisce, will be handled by the company Hrvatske ceste and all activities should start by May this year. The minister added that an administrative competition was being organized for the selection of contractors – since the section should be finalized by the year 2010.
Kalmeta also talked about the upcoming four year term during which the construction of a new Rijeka beltway should be added to the plans as well as the finalization of the motorway from Krizisce till Zuta Lokva.
The road leading from the port of Rijeka to the eastern exit of the city would by finalized by the end of 2008, the minister said and he also explained that one of the problems regarding that section was the transfer of buildings belonging to the Croatian Railways.
The construction of the road which would connect the port at the western side would match the dynamics of the building of the Zagreb shore in the port of Rijeka and, according to Kalmeta, it should be finished within four years.
