The meeting of General Directors of the Railway Group G-4 (ŽSR, MÁV, GySEV, HŽ, ÖBB, ZSSK, ZSSK CARGO, SŽ, ŽBH) takes place today at Opatija. Participating as guests are the representatives of the CER and the European Commission (DG Regio).
The topics of the meeting will be the future joined activities and projects: education and specialization of railway employees according to EU standards, with the goal of achieving interoperability in the railway activities. Other issues will be the European transport policy and priorities for supporting investments in railway transport, the development of the railway transport and the European cohesion policy, the current state and ongoing progress of the ETCS system, as well as the proposal to shorten the time necessary for traveling the route ZAGREB – LJUBLJANA – VILLACH – SALZBURG.
Marijan Klarić, deputy board president of HŽ, along a presentation of the offer for the new tourist season and about the modernization of passenger wagons, will also present a proposal for a new product: night train for the route Zagreb – Prague, along the analysis of two possible routes (Zagreb – Zidani Most – Graz – Vienna – Prague and Zagreb – Gyekenyes – Vienna – Prague).
G-4 was founded in December 1992 in Vienna and the first members were the Austrian Railways, Slovenian Railways, Hungarian Railways and Croatian Railways. Afterwards they were joined by the Slovakian Railways, the Railways of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the private Austrian – Hungarian railways GYSEV. The role of G-4 was to promote common interests in the Danube – Adriatic region.
