The President of the Board of the Croatian Railways Tomislav Josip Mlinarić stated today that due to all the false information published in the press, a state of chaos had been created in the Croatian Railways.
He underlined his statement by claiming that during the first six months in 2005 the number of accidents went down by 25.5% compared to the same period in 2003.
He also said that the traffic had been reinstated within only five days on the railway – track Zagreb – Rijeka and that he was not ready to hand in his resignation.
Mlinarić admitted that some organizational and technical improvements were necessary within the Croatian Railways and that there were possible plans for the investment of over HRK 1 billion into infrastructure and transport projects.
A report handed out to the journalists says that during the first six months in 2005, 12 persons were killed in railway accidents which is a decrease of 20% compared to 2003. The number of seriously injured dropped down to 21 persons (down 41% over 2003).
Regarding possible causes for the accident in Deanovac, the expected report should be finalized until tomorrow.
As far as the accident in Drivenik is concerned, employees are still being interviewed. Final reports should be ready in about one month. Until then it will be clear whether the reason for the accident were the disabled breaks of the Hungarian goods wagons or whether the reason was human failure.
