The project establishing the Maritime Coastal Liner Traffic Information System, aimed at increasing the system efficiency and service accessibility, reducing expenses and improving efficiency of the maritime passenger line traffic monitoring system, was launched today in the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure.
The Agency for Coastal Liner Traffic will be responsible for the operational implementation of the overall system.
The meeting on maritime public coastal liner traffic has brought together representatives of Jadrolinija, the Agency for Coastal Liner Traffic, state and county port authorities and shipping companies.
Maja Markovčić Kostalac spoke about the system implementation plan, stressing that the aim of the introduction of this system into maritime traffic to improve the overall status of the infrastructural development of ports, the establishment of which must necessarily be adapted to both developed and to developing ports.
The proposal to reduce and equalize port fees to 6 percent of travel tickets price has been considered at the request of shiping companies, in order to reduce operating costs of the shipping companies maintaining the traffic on the state lines.
Assistant Minister for Maritime affairs, inland navigation, shipping, ports and maritime domain capt. Nikola Mendrila said that the possible reduction of fees would have a direct negative effect on port authorities, that are using these funds for the modernisation and maintenance of port infrastructures, but he also requested the representatives of port authorities to submit financial plans for the coming year, before the end of the current year.
At request of the shipping companies, it has been announced that the proposal of the Act on privately contracted armed security personnel on board ships in international navigation is soon going to be submitted in the Government procedure, as are the amendments to the Maritime Code, the more significant ones being the change in the status of cabotage and the introduction of compulsory insurance for shipping companies.
It was also announced that the Act on maritime costal liner traffic is going to be amended, with the intention of modernizing maritime transport.
A new Maritime Domain and Seaports Act, is also expected to be adopted by the end of the current year.
