State Headquarters to implement interventions for sudden pollution has met this evening at the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, to discuss further treatment of the Croatian authorities in connection with spills of petroleum pollution in the river Po in Italy and possible threats to the Adriatic Sea.
According to the data at the disposal of HQ, appositely measures can be determined as follows:
- The contamination occurred as a result of oil spills from refineries near Monza in the river Lambro, which then spread to the river Po,
- If oil contamination would not be stopped, it could for 70 hours to reach the mouth of the Po River near Cape Maestra near Venice.
According to the newest informations the Italian authorities are taking all the activities to stopp the contamination before the River Po delta, at the river's entrance to the Adriatic Sea.
Operating staff on the Italian side has taken all preventive actions to protect the Adriatic Sea, and has ordered the County to put the operational professional service centers in readiness as well as the technical resources to provide preventive and protective measures. The HQ analyze the weather data in defining of follow measures.
Republic of Croatia has offered help to the Italian Republic and also has took the steps in order to activate the sub-regional plan for Accidental Marine Pollution, which is usual in such cases, and the Croatian HQ offered cooperation between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
