PM Sanader opens new ferry port on Šolta Island

(photo: FaH)Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader opened on Sunday the new ferry port Rogač on the central Adriatic island of Šolta, worth HRK 40 million, accompanied by the State Secretary of the Sea of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Branko Bačić.

Opening the new port the construction of which was mostly funded by the government, the PM said that the new port was proof of Croatia's Adriatic orientation which his government declared four and a half years ago.

Such investments in islands represent Croatia's permanent orientation, because the development of islands also means the development of Croatia. Croatia is as strong as Šolta, Vis or Vukovar and not as strong as Zagreb and Split, the PM said.

In the last four years we earmarked six billion kunas of budgetary funds for projects on islands, including 37 water supply projects, 38 sewage projects, 31 schools, five pre-school institutions, 34 community health centre and 56 ports, "Sanader said adding that infrastructure would not be sufficient for revival if entrepreneurs were not encourage to launch businesses.

Therefore the government has decided to give grants in the form of one gross salary to entrepreneurs for each created job, he said.

Sanader spoke about plans for opening a ferry port in Sumartin on the island of Brač and the start of the construction of a new port in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar.

He added that fishing ports in Postire, Brač, and in Komiža on the island of Vis would soon be opened.
