Croatia joins system of satellite detection of oil spills at sea

Croatia has joined CleanSeaNet, a service of the European Maritime Safety Agency, and an active participant in the European system of satellite monitoring and discovering of oil spills at sea, the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure said on Tuesday.

The ministry signed a contract with the agency in late May.

Croatia is obliged to provide a system and coordinate the verification of satellite detection via immediate monitoring and taking of oil spill samples.

One of the objectives is reducing the risk of maritime pollution and assisting member countries in the early detection of illegal oil dumping at sea.
