Transport minister says Pelješac Bridge won't be scrapped

Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Božidar Kalmeta said in Zadar on Saturday that scrapping the construction of the Pelješac Bridge, which is to connect the southernmost peninsula of Pelješac with the mainland, was out of the question.

"Many jobs, currently under way, are not visible, which perhaps confuses some people", he said in response to questions from the press.

Kalmeta said the bridge would most probably be built by the end of the current government's term, and added that there were no directives from the European Union to abandon construction.

"There are no doubts about the Pelješac Bridge. The work on the access roads has begun and abutments have been ordered... Everything possible at this stage of the project is being done", said the minister.
