Today at 00.45 a.m., after a fire broke out on board, the English yacht “Lady Carisma” sank in the Čifnat Bay at the south-western side of the island of Rab, despite all the efforts undertaken by the firemen.
After the localization of the fire, the vessel was towed out of the bay, approximately 50 meters from the shore, where it sank around 4.30 a.m. to a depth of 20 meters.
The ship tanks contained almost 3 tones of diesel fuel, but for now no leakage was discovered.
At the moment of the fire, there was no crew member on board. The SOS notification was sent out by the owner of the vessel who watched his boat go up in flames during his return from the shore.
All the relevant institutions were instantly notified, and the necessary measures were undertaken throughout the shortest period of time.
During the day the fuel will be extracted from the tanks, and tomorrow the sunken yacht will be pulled out from the sea. After that follows the procedure for establishing the causes of the accident.
