A USD 54 million tanker was launched at a ceremony in the shipyard of the southern coastal city of Split on Saturday.
The State Secretary of the Sea Branko Bačić, was chosen to be the godfather of the tanker.
After the tankers “Alan” and “Hrvatska”, the “Donat” was the third vessel built for the same client, the Zadar-based ship owner “Tankerska Plovidba”. It is one of the three largest ships ever built in the Split shipyard and launched in one piece.
The Suezmax-type tanker is designed for the transport of crude oil and oil products. The vessel is 281.20 meters long, 48.20 meters wide and 23 meters high, and has a carrying capacity of 166,300 gross register tons.
The “Donat” is powered by a 16,780 kw diesel engine manufactured in the Split shipyard and can develop a maximum speed of 15.8 knots.
Before the “Alan”, “Hrvatska” and “Donat”, the shipyard built eight Suezmax tankers, but some ten meters shorter.
After the launch, the keel was laid for a 65,200 GRT Panamax-type tanker for Swedish shipping company Concordia Maritime.
