Maritime accident on the Ferry 'Petar Hektorović': Two Seamen in Hospital

Two crew members, who were injured this morning during a regular boat drill, held on the Jadrolinija ferry 'Petar Hektorović', remained in hospital while three of their colleagues were released.

Among those who stayed on  for further medical treatment are the chief mate Toni Bašković who received a strong blow to his chest and the steersman Damir Zdilar who had several of his ribs broken.

Denis Barešić, the third engine officer, dislocated his right shoulder, Ante Senad Berbić, fourth engine officer, hurt two bones of his left fist and the sailor Hrvoje Zemunik suffered a small head injury. But, all of them were released from hospital.

The sixth member of the crew, the steersman Petar Petrina, remained without injury since he managed to jump on the deck, during the accident.

After the inspection, the ferry was no longer allowed to use the two rescue boats until after their testing was completed. Also, the inspectors issued a confirmation regarding the additional survey of the ship and a new certificate confirming the ship’s sailing capacity for a decreased number of passengers.

Tomorrow morning in Split a Committee will meet to further inspect the causes of this maritime accident, the members of that Committee were selected today by the Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Božidar Kalmeta.
