On 22 November 2005, Božidar Kalmeta, the Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development will open the conference "Pre-Accession Maritime Strategy of the Republic of Croatia with Particular Reference to the Environmental Protection of the Adriatic Sea".
To attend the presentation, are invited ministers of Adriatic countries in charge of maritime affairs, representatives of the European Commission, international authorities in the area of maritime affairs, and numerous representatives of business and science in Croatia.
Croatia"s joining the EU is one of the highest priorities of the Croatian Government. That is why the activities of the Ministry are focused on adjusting the maritime legislation with the EU legal acquit, as well as on adjusting the maritime economic to the business activities on a joint European market.
With that goal, the Ministry has adopted this Pre – Accession Strategy in June, this year. The strategy is based on an analysis of the differences in the area of maritime transport related to the legal and economic acquit of the EU, containing a plan of measures whose intention it is to decrease the established differences.
During this conference will also be organized the festive signing of the Agreement on the reconstruction and building of the operational water bank at the Dubrovnik – Gruž port. The signing will be attended by Minister Kalmeta, Branko Bačić, State Secretary for Sea, Captain Mario Babić, Assistant Minister for Maritime, Traffic, Maritime Domain and Ports ,Ivo Miletić, Deputy- Prefect of the Dubrovnik - Neretva County, and Dubravka Šuica, Prefect of the Dubrovnik – Neretva County.
The value of the Agreement for the construction mounts up to HRK 180 million. It will be signed by the Director of the Port Dubrovnik, Vlaho Đurković, in the name of the investor and by Željko Žderić, president of the company "Konstruktor – inženjering Split" in the name of the contractor. This company was chosen after an international tender was carried out.
