Croatian minister talks infrastructure cooperation with Chinese reps

A Croatian delegation led by the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, during their official visit to China on Monday and Tuesday held a number of meetings with representatives of the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and several Chinese companies.

At the meeting with the NDRC deputy secretary general, Su Wei, held on Monday, the Chinese said they saw Croatia as a partner in several projects and a country with a unique geopolitical position which enables cooperation in several areas. Apart from the One Belt, One Road and China 16+1 initiatives, cooperation can also be developed with Croatian ports, a press release issued by the Croatian ministry said.

The cooperation between the two countries has intensified even more after a Chinese company was selected at a tender for the construction of the Peljesac Bridge, which represents a new area and a new era of cooperation between Croatia and China which will help boost Croatia's economy with Chinese investments and projects, Su Wei said.

The Croatian minister said cooperation in infrastructure was very important to Croatia.

On Monday, Butkovic held talks with representatives of the China Road and Bridge Corporation company which has been selected to build the Peljesac Bridge. Butkovic expressed satisfaction with the pace of the implementation of the Peljesac Bridge construction project. He also talked about other important projects, such as building a highway from Ploce to Dubrovnik, a fast road from Dubrovnik to the border with Montenegro, and railway construction.

The Croatian delegation also discussed investment projects with representatives of China Railway Group Limited.

The Croatian delegation is scheduled to return to Croatia on January 26.
