The Rijeka Port Authority Steering Board has decided to launch work on a new container terminal, and a contract on designing and building the terminal will be signed with the contractor within a month, Steering Board chair Pave Komadina and Rijeka Port Authority head Bojan Hlaca said on Tuesday.
Seven bidders had applied to build the new section of the Rijeka Gateway project and the best bidder was a consortium consisting of the Italian companies CO.ED.MAR., Grandi Lavori Fincosit, Impresa Costruzioni Giuseppe Maltauro, and the Croatian Osijek Koteks company. The consortium offered a price of 71.5 million euros to design and build the terminal.
The companies making up the consortium have 28 days to submit guarantees for the completion of the project, and the terminal is to be built over a period of five years.
The container terminal will be located at the Zagrebacka Obala section of the Rijeka port and will be built in two stages. The first stage covers the construction of a 400-metre-long and 200-metre-wide wharf, and the second its extension to 680 metres in length.
The draught along the new wharf will be 18 metres, the deepest in the northern Adriatic.
