Zemunik: a tunnel under the Zadar airport will be build
Agreement on the construction of the underpasses beneath the Zadar airport has been signed in Zemunik between BOZIDAR KALMETA, the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure and Croatian Roads (HC) and the representatives of the Zemunk County and local municipalities.
This will enable traffic for the Zemunik residents of their places of residence to Zadar by using the old road.
According to the signed Agreement the producing documentation for the traffic underpass will begin immediately, and the construction works on the 60 meter long two-lane underpass will begin by the end of the year. Realization of this project will be accompanied by representatives of the Zemunk County municipalities and County Directorate for Roads, and the investor will be the Croatian Roads (HC).
The current road Zadar - Zemunik intersects the runway at the Zadar airport, and every time the aircraft landes or take off, road blocks closes the local road in the area of the airport, which causes noise and traffic jams, especially during the summer period.
Upon instructions of the European Commission, and for the causes of the safety, the road will be closed by March 1st 2010, and the locals can travell to Zadar by other two roads: access road Cvor-Gaženica-Zadar II, or by the speedway road Zemunik-Smoković-Zadar.
Zemunik locals believe that these two directions are too long, and the travel time and mileage to Zadar is higher. Therefore, in recent months, ultimately required the construction of underpasses beneath the Zadar airport, which was signed today in the Agreement.
Today's signing of the Agreement on the construction of underpasses beneath the Zadar airport in Zemunik attended Stipe Zrilic, the Zadar County Prefect.
