Zagreb - Sisak motorway to be completed in summer 2010

During a visit to the construction site on Thursday, in the company of the Minister of Finance Davor Šuker, Božidar Kalmeta the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure told the reporters that the future motorway Zagreb - Sisak would be completed in the summer of 2010.

According to Kalmeta the construction activities are proceeding as expected and he also announced that the sections from Velika Gorica south to Buševac will be finalized by May 2009 and from Velika Gorica to Zagreb by the end of 2009.

Recent difficulties regarding the purchasing of land are in the process of being solved, he said, adding that all construction activities including the route to Sisak would be negotiated during the month of October. At the moment 12 companies organized in business organizations are working at the construction site.

Asked if the final cost of construction would be HRK 4.4 billion (approximately EUR 618 million) as announced, Kalmeta said that it would be known once all the tenders were completed.

Kalmeta also explained that by the end of 2008 a 40 km long motorway section from Šestanovci to Račva would be opened for traffic, as well as the 10 km long motorway section Ploče - port Ploče. He also confirmed that by the end of March 2009 the section Osijek - Đakovo would be completed.

The Motorway Zagreb-Sisak will be 47.5 km long and divided into three sections: Jakuševec - Velika Gorica south (9.5 km), Velika Gorica south - Lekenik (20.2 km) and Lekenik - Mošćenica (17.8 km).

Along the motorway following objects are planned: gas station, restaurant, six intersections and two access roads at Veliko Polje and Velika Gorica. Also part of the project is a center for maintenance and traffic control within the Sisak intersection. Further construction activities will include 17 bridges, 5 viaducts, 20 overpasses, 7 underpasses and 17 passages. Objects of greater importance will be a 550 m long bridge crossing the Odra River - the Velikogorička Road and the railroad track, a 280 m long bridge over the Sava - Odra Channel and a 270 m long port bridge over the Kupa River as well as a 750 m long viaduct.
