A 15.2-million kuna contract on awarding non-repayable funds for elaborating the first stage of a master plan for the transportation system in the City of Zagreb and its two nearby counties -- Zagreb County and Krapina - Zagorje County - was signed on Tuesday by Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic and the director of the Zagreb integrated transportation, Ivan Milicevic.

European Union's funds will cover 85% of this amount of HRK 15.2 million and the remaining 15% will be provided by the City of Zagreb and the two counties.

Zagreb County Prefect Stjepan Kozic said at the contract-signing ceremony that there were over 100,000 residents in the county commuting to the capital and efforts should be invested in easing traffic congestion.

Minister Hajdas Doncic reiterated that some 12 billion euros would be available from EU funds to Croatia for the purpose of upgrading transport infrastructure by 2020.
