Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic and Vinkovci Mayor Mladen Karlic signed an agreement on Wednesday valued at HRK 504,000 for the preparation of a transport masterplan for this eastern Croatian city, 85% of which is to be financed from the European regional development fund.

The project refers to the preparation of a strategic plan to define the framework to develop an integrated transport system for Vinkovci, Hajdas Doncic said.

He recalled that Croatia had HRK 1.6 billion at its disposal from European funds for the period from 2014 to 2020 to finance transport projects and one of the preconditions to apply for funding is to prepare a transport masterplan.

So far 10 local and regional government units have signed agreements for the preparation of masterplans.

Mayor Karlic said that he expected the town's masterplan to be completed within the next 12 months and the first project that will apply for European funds will be the eastern ring road.

Minister Hajdas Doncic inspected the recently reconstructed railway station in the town. The HZ Infrastructure company invested HRK 22 million for the reconstruction and HZ Infrastructure's CEO Renata Susa said that documents were being prepared for the reconstruction and electrification of the Vinkovci - Vukovar railway route which is valued at 2.5 million euro and will be co-funded with 85% of the funds coming from EU funds.

The entire project is valued at around HRK 420 million and will be financed from the 2014 - 2020 operational programme, Hajdas Doncic added.
