Trilateral Adriatic protection commission meets in Zadar

A regular meeting of the Croatian-Slovenian-Italian Commission for the protection of the Adriatic Sea and its coastal areas was held under Croatia's chairmanship in Zadar on June 4 and 5, the Croatian Environment Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Under discussion were topics relating to the protection of the marine environment, such as ballast water management, the implementation of a subregional contingency plan in case of accidental marine pollution, the EU marine strategy directive and the coordination of indicators and methods for testing the quality of the sea water in the Adriatic.

The trilateral commission also discussed the integrated management of coastal areas, with the delegations stressing the importance of the coordination and synergy of all activities in the Adriatic to ensure its effective protection and sustainable development and expressing their readiness to continue further cooperation, the statement said.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Priority Actions Programme / Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) and the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre (REMPEC).
