Trieste: Kalmeta Participating in Meeting on Transport

The Croatian Minster of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Božidar Kalmeta, along with his colleagues, the transport ministers from Italy, Hungary, and Slovenia is getting ready to participate in a meeting regarding the 5 C Corridor. The meeting is being organized from 27 until 28 February in Trieste.

On that occasion the Minister will present all activities his country is undertaking, i.e. building and modernizing traffic routes throughout the 5th Pan European traffic corridor, with its boarders B and C passing through Croatia.

Within the Corridor 5 B (Rijeka – Zagreb – Budapest) Croatia is building the second, 55 km long route of the motorway Zagreb – Rijeka, which should be finalized by the year 2008. Within the Corridor 5 C (Ploče – Sarajevo – Osijek – Budapest) the plans are to complete a 55 km long motorway from Osijek to Sredanci, also until 2008.

The railway area of the 5 B Corridor should gain another railroad route, and the 5 C should undergo a modernization of its 60 km long railroad passage. The Port Rijeka is in the process of modernization and building new infrastructure, construction activities are also planned for the Port Ploče, in the value of 79 million dollars.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers are expected to sign a Declaration on the Corridor 5 with the goal to continue building traffic infrastructure and re-routing traffic from roads towards maritime, railroad and intermodal forms of transport.
