Starting with 24 December, this year, until the end of March, next year, drivers who are using the smart card will have a 23.5% discount. Drivers of the Krapina - Zabok motorway will have enjoy a temporary discount, until the finalization of alternative routes; the fee will be HRK 4 instead of HRK 9. Those were the Government’s decisions at today's session.

The 23.5% smart card discount applies to all motorways under the maintenance of the 'Hrvatske autoceste' as well as to the motorway Rijeka – Zagreb. The goal is to increase the traffic intensity along the motorways during winter, especially towards Dalmatia, emphasized the Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Božidar Kalmeta.

This seasonal discount will be at disposal for the period from 1 November until 31 March, every year. The discount will be offered to natural persons who have purchased smart cards in the minimum amount of HRK 1200 and legal person of the 1st category with smart cards purchased in the amount of HRK 3000.

Smart cards are not linked to the registration plates of one particular vehicle, it is possible to lend one’s smart card to other drivers and its usage is also not limited to particular seasons. This means that if somebody does not use up the smart card during the winter months, he has the possibility to keep on using it during the following summer with a 10% discount, and so on.

Based on that novelty, the drivers of private cars will pay for the route Zagreb – Split, instead of HRK 157, the amount of HRK 120. For the route Rijeka – Zagreb the toll fee will be, HRK 43, instead of HRK 56, the route Zagreb – Županja will be charged with HRK 71, instead of HRK 93.

The Government decided today to temporarily decrease the toll fee for the route Krapina – Zabok, based on the fact that the motorway Krapina- Macelj, which is still in construction, is partly built on the route of the former state road, so that for that motorway there are no adequate parallel roads.
The Government also agreed with the proposals presented by the ‘Hrvatske autoceste’ and ‘Hrvatske ceste’ regarding construction and maintenance plans for 2006.

In 2006 ‘Hrvatske autoceste’ is planning to spend HRK 2.7 billion and an extra of HRK 386 million for regular maintenance activities. ‘Hrvatske ceste’ is planning to spend HRK 2.3 billion for the building and maintenance activities.

Minister Kalmeta also announced the preparations for the public tender which will be organized to select the contractors for the building of the Pelješac Bridge.
