The Croatian Telecommunications Agency is intending to take over the management over the telecommunications distribution network on 1 October and will manage this infrastructure until the settlement of the issue of its ownership, the agency chairman Gasper Gaćina told the press on Thursday.

Gaćina said that the agency did not want to discuss the issue of who was the owner of the telecommunications channels and did not want to prejudge a possible court ruling on the matter.

Our aim is to address problems relating to the underground telecommunications infrastructure and make it possible for all operators to have access to the said infrastructure under the same conditions, he added.

Gaćina said both the major operator the Croatian Telecommunications
(HT) and small operators shared the responsibility for problems that had cropped up in this field.

"The HT is to be blamed for having behaved as the only owner and having concluded agreements with new operators, and also those operators should be blamed for having concluded unfavorable agreements only to devastate (telecommunications) pits and ducts overnight or during weekends," he said.

The agency will also launch a one-month on-line discussion on the matter as of 1 August.
