The Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Božidar Kalmeta, with the agreement of the Minister of the Interior Ivica Kirin, approved the Decree regarding the traffic limitation on the state road D2 (Podravska Highway). From September 1st, 2005 until September 1st, 2006 along that road a traffic ban will exist on lorries (with or without trailers, heavier than 7.5 tons and more than 14 meters long).

Last year (starting on 1 September 2004) minister Kalmeta introduced the traffic ban along the Podravska Highway. This happened after the Government had accepted the demands of the local inhabitants regarding the traffic ban on heavy lorries.

By passing this new decree the traffic ban is sustained for another year in order to increase the level of traffic security along the Podravska Highway, to stop further road destruction and to re-route transit traffic to the motorway.

The decree refers to heavy cargo vehicles and foreign vehicles while in transit using the passage of the the Podravska Highway: Varaždin (Crossing Street Pavle Miškin and DC 510)-Koprivnica-Virovitica-Našice-Osijek (Osijek-west).

From the traffic ban are excluded as follows:
- vehicles with right of way and vehicles under escort
- vehicles of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and vehicles of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia
- vehicles for road maintenance, electro energetic and similar installations
- other vehicles with a permit

The permit for using the Podravska Highway is being issued by the competent police administration or police station in charge of the control of the frontiers of the Republic of Croatia, in case of international road transport. The permit is issued when the transport is specially justified considering timing or circumstances or necessary due to security reasons. An additional reason could be that not issuing the permit might cause serious material damage.
