Sunken Yacht, Yachtsman Accused of Misdemeanor
Last night, an 11.5 meters long yacht sank near to the northern side of the Kornati Islands within the south-eastern area of the National park, after colliding with the cliff ‘Klint’. The 'sunshine 38' carried only a 57-years old Slovenian citizen who managed to save himself by climbing into an inflatable boat, according to the statement of Marina Halužan, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development.
Sailing from Piškere towards Primošten, the yachtsman switched on the autopilot and around 10 p.m. he noticed the rock but was not able to react in time and the yacht dashed against the cliff', said Marina Halužan. She also added that the yachtsman tried to pump out the water within the next two hours, but without success. Finally the yacht went under and the yachtsman managed to reach, with help of the inflatable boat, the reception of the National Park 'Kornati', this morning around 6 a.m. After that he was transferred to Murter.
The Harbor Master sent him for a medical check-up, where he was diagnosed with a head injury and a state of shock, Halužan added. The Murter Harbor Master also investigated the yachtsman and concluded that the accident was his responsibility. The result was that the Slovenian yachtsman was accused of misdemeanor.
