The number of passengers catered for at Split Airport in the first ten months rose 11% year on year, and the airport management expects the number of passengers to rise to 1.75 million by the end of this year, which will mean that Split Airport has become one of the busiest in Croatia and the region.

Assistant Director Pero Bilas told Hina on Tuesday that the airport in the second biggest Croatian city had registered record high statistics when it came to passenger turnover in the last four years.

The managements expects a further rise, given that some 50 airline companies have announced direct services between Split and 80 different destinations.

Low - cost carriers now account for 45% of transport via that airport called "Resnik".

Split Airport has launched a EUR 60 million project of overhauling and revamping its passenger terminal.
