Rijeka: State road D 404 opened

Prime Minister JADRANKA KOSOR on Monday inaugurated the 3.5-kilometre-long state road D 404 connecting downtown Rijeka with the eastern part of this northern Adriatic seaport's ring-road.

Kosor said more than HRK 640 million was invested in the road and that it was important for the economy and the safety of citizens.

We have fulfilled another promise, she said, adding that 151 km of motorways had been built in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County over the past two years and that more than HRK 816 million had been invested in renovation and maintenance.

More than HRK 619 million was invested in the maintenance and renovation of 526 km of state roads and more than HRK 185 million was invested in county and local roads.

More than HRK 4.5 billion was invested in various projects in the county, notably in Rijeka, over the past two years, said Kosor.

"Only if we disregard who is in power where and if we put together all the strength, intelligence, enthusiasm and love for the country, can we turn the pages of Croatia's progress," she said, adding, "we will soon build the road to the EU as well, in the 20th anniversary of independence."

Josip Skoric of the Croatian Roads company said 60 per cent of D 404 consisted of a bridge, five viaducts and two tunnels, the longest of which is 1,342 metres.
