The Rijeka Port company generated a record-high turnover of 5.5 million tonnes of cargo and more than 140,000 containers this year, and it will be recapitalized in 2008 with the value of a warehouse in Škrljevo near Rijeka, the management said on Monday.

The company's stock capital is about HRK 301 million. An extraordinary assembly will be held in January at which the state will recapitalize the company by giving it more than 300,000 square meters of maritime demesne in Škrljevo.

This land was taken from the company in the early 1990s, declared maritime demesne and given to the Rijeka Port Authority for management.

At the proposal of the Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, the government adopted a decision this year to exempt the storage space in Škrljevo from maritime demesne, thus providing for its return to the Rijeka Port company.

A new value estimate of the warehouses will be made soon. Unofficially, they are worth tens of millions of euros.
