Rijeka given concession to use facilities in port area for cultural events
A concession contract-awarding ceremony was held in Rijeka on Friday on the use of the former Exportdrvo storage facilities in the Port of Rijeka for the purposes of the Rijeka 2020 European Capital of Culture project.
The contract regulates the use of 5,641 square metres of the storage shed and land whereby the ministry of transport and sea awarded a five-year concession to the Rijeka city authorities to use this compound for cultural purposes such as the organisation of cultural events, exhibitions and entertainment shows.
During the ceremony, Minister Oleg Butkovic said that good cooperation had been established with the local authorities and that the situation between the city authorities and the port authorities had been defused.
Mayor Vojko Obersnel said the former Exportdrvo storage facilities had potential for multiple use. They can serve as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and so on.
The head of the port authority, Denis Vukorepa, said that they had invested HRK 4.3 million in the facilities.
