Port of Rijeka Protects its Cultural Heritage

The Minister of Culture Božo Biškupić explained at today’s meeting of the appointed Experts' group, that the cultural heritage (ancient warehouses) of the Rijeka Port would remain preserved without endangering the port’s future development.

According to the Minister the accepted solution would include a filling of the so-called Prague pier in order to gain an additional 50 000 m2 for the unloading of goods and the passage of large lorries. According to plan the dam should be constructed within a period of eight months.

The Mayor of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel stated that this kind of solution was no surprise. It allowed the creating of an additional operational area, making it also possible to maintain the old warehouses.
