Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on Sunday inaugurated the four-kilometer-long fast road Solin-Klis-Sinj, between the intersections Grlo and Podi, connecting Split with the A1 Highway and the hinterland.

The value of the new road lies around HRK 330 million.

Sanader said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony that this symbolic act meant much more, stressing that it was the beginning of solving traffic problems.

This government proved that it can reduce deficit as well as continue building road infrastructure, he said.

Speaking about the Pelješac Bridge, Sanader said the bridge was necessary and that it did not represent competition for the highway that will be built through Neum in agreement with the authorities of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Božidar Kalmeta, said that traffic at the Zagreb - Split highway this June rose by 36 percent in relation to last year. He also underlined that the highway was important for the economy and tourism, adding that this year's tourism results were six percent better than last year.
