Ploce, February 19 2011 - PM Kosor with the representatives and employees of the Port of PloceThe prosperity of the Port of Ploce is in the interest of the state and the decision to inject fresh capital in the port is a way to achieve that goal, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said in the southern Croatian town of Ploce where she met with members of the port's management and representatives of the port workers' union.

Kosor's visit to Ploce was prompted by a decision of the government to sell 52,000 shares of the Port of Ploce to the port's workers under favourable conditions.

By implementing the project in which money obtained from the recapitalisation will be invested, the number of port workers could be increased by 20 percent, it was said at the meeting between the PM and the port's representatives.

"I am satisfied that we decided toPloce, February 19 2011 - main objective of this meeting was the decision of the Government on the sale of the 52 000 shares to the employeesof the port of Ploce, on the privileged rates sell 52,000 shares to the workers at a price of HRK 400 per share because the decision is both socially sensitive and equitable," Kosor said.

The government's decision was welcomed by the port's employees, and the leader of the HUS trade union, Ozren Matijasevic, said the government had entirely honoured the agreement with the port's management and made good decisions which, once their implementation started, would mean new employment, notably in the sector where it was needed the most - construction.

During the talks at the Port of Ploce, the start of construction work on a bulk cargo terminal was announced for September.
