Opening of Zagreb Auto Show

The Zagreb Auto Show, one of the biggest car shows in the southeast of Europe, opened today on the Zagreb fair. It will last eleven days and it will host 600 exhibitors from 30 countries.

The Show was opened by the Minster of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development Božidar Kalmeta.

This year, the exhibition will be covering 70 000 m2, which is a 5 000 m2 increase as compared to the last car show, organized in 2004.

The organizers expect more than 200 000 visitors from Croatia and from countries abroad. The fair will present 42 automobile types (6 more than in 2004), in 340 models (20 more than in 2004), as well as 30 types and 200 models of motorcycles and scooters.

The visitors will enjoy 10 international vice premieres, five European vice premieres and 19 Croatian premieres, four concept cars will be presented as well as 23 novelties regarding motor-bikes and scooters.

Opening the fair, Kalmeta specially underlined the importance of safety in traffic. 'This is one of the most important goals of the National program for road traffic safety. Safety is also one of the main reason for Croatia’s investments in road construction and modernization', he explained, adding that for those operations HRK 32 million would be secured throughout the next four years.

The 'Zagreb Auto Show' is being organized since 1992 and since the year 2000 it takes place every two years. Every other year the Zagreb fair is hosting the 'Zagreb Transport Show' an exhibition presenting commercial vehicles, transport, logistics and supporting industry.

This year's show offers a whole range of events and attractions for the visitors, as for example test drives, off road driving, an oldtimer festival, beauty competition, fashion show and other.

The show will also organize international scientific meetings like ‘Science and Development of Traffic’ and ‘Handicapped Participating in Traffic’.
